God's Hope for Us

11-05-2023Weekly ReflectionFr. Fred Adamson

Dear Parishioners,

As you read this I hope the Diamondbacks have clinched the World Series title. A worldly hope, but none the less a hope. What is Christian hope? This week at morning Mass, St. Paul in his letter to the Romans, speaks of hope, “for in hope we were saved.” It also speaks of “creation groaning” in this life, much like we groan when we watch the news these days...hoping for peace, for the respect of human life and care for those most vulnerable. As Christians, we groan as we wait in hope for God’s fulfillment.

I often ponder what does God hope for us, for each of us, our families and community? My guess is He would want us to draw closer to His Son, to live in harmony with one another, that we draw close to His love and find true peace and happiness in Him alone.

So what is our hope? Our hope is in Christ, the one who saves. Our hope is in God, who made heaven and earth in His truth, mercy and saving grace. Being in right relationship with God is Christian hope and fulfillment. One that is beyond our own doing, our own actions; one that leads to what is lasting and enduring forever. A deep connection to God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

As we journey together this week we hope for many things, cool weather, good health, success for our young people, etc. All good things...while at the same time recognizing God’s hope for us—to be one with Him, the source of our hope, peace and love.

“For who hopes for what one sees? But if we hope for what we do not see we wait in endurance.”

Blessings to you and your family.

Peace always in Him,

Fr. Fred
