A Message From Fr. Fred

11-12-2023Weekly ReflectionFr. Fred Adamson

Dear Parishioners,

One of my favorite quotes is from Saint Augustine, Bishop in the late 4th and early 5th century.

“Bad times, hard times, this is what people keep saying, but let us live well, and the times shall be good. We are the times, such as we are, such are the times.”

I have had many people share with me their feelings of being helpless in the light of what is happening in the Holy Land, Ukraine, and various things happening here in our country. This quote always reminds me that in every age there are difficulties, conflicts and challenges. What is important is how we live as Christians in the world with Jesus as the center of our lives, the one who is the source of peace and goodness. So let us live well, growing closer to the Lord and his ways in our daily lives.

We are called to be witnesses of His goodness in the world – we serve the poor, we comfort the sick and dying, we stand in solidarity with the oppressed, we let the light of Christ shine in the daily moments of our lives.

Last weekend we welcomed our new parochial vicar/associate pastor – Fr. Ryan Lee. Fr. Ryan comes with experience in a few different parishes and is grateful to be assigned here at Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. He is a humble man of prayer and I am looking forward to working with him as a brother priest.

Finally – I just want to recognize and express my gratitude for your care and commitment to the parish. Over and over again these past few months I have witnessed and experienced your joyful service, quiet humble actions, prayerful worship and great spirit of welcome to new families and visitors. May our lives always point to Him who saves and gives meaning to our lives.

Peace in Him,

Fr. Fred
