Saints

10-01-2023Weekly ReflectionFr. Fred Adamson

It is hard to believe it is October already. For us in Arizona it is a promise of cooler weather and the months of desert beauty we love. As Catholics, this month is filled with special feast days, starting with October 1st, the Feast of Saint Therese of Lisieux. Her little way is a model for many to love the Lord in every situation we find ourselves in.

The rest of the month includes many Catholic favorites—the Holy Guardian Angels, Saint Francis of Assisi, Saint Faustina, Our Lady of the Rosary, St. Denis and Companions, St. John XXIII, St. Margaret Mary Alacouque, St. Luke, St. Paul of the Cross, St. John Paul II, St. John of Capistrano, St. Anthony Mary Claret and Sts. Simon and Jude. Plus many other saints that fill our days and lives.

I bring this up because the saints truly are spiritual friends—drawing closer to them helps us on our journey. Their example and prayers, teachings and sayings, bring us strength on the journey. I have found over the years that by getting to know their stories and teachings they often surprise me in unexpected ways. All of the sudden, we have special moments with them that confirms God’s love for us and reminds us of our connection with them in the Communion of Saints.

Parish life is full of many blessings. Sunday being the greatest when we are gathered as a community to give God thanks and to be strengthened by His Good News, the Holy Eucharist and praying as one together. It truly is the best day in the life of the parish and I am grateful to God when he gathers us together.

Remember to share the Good News of God’s love with friends and family. Invite them to the parish and the great gift of Sunday in our lives.

May the saints of the month inspire and guide us in our journey together.

Peace and Joy in the Lord,

Fr. Fred
