Feasts of the Christmas Season

01-02-2022Weekly ReflectionFr. Michael Straley

Christmas season is such a wonderful time with so many great feasts helping us remember the wonder of God’s great gift to us. Saturday is, or was, the feast of Mary the Mother of God; usually this is a obligatory feast but not this year since it fell on a Saturday . Sunday is the feast of the Epiphany, which signifies God’s being made present among us.

In many countries Epiphany is when children receive the most gifts, remembering the gifts of the Magi after the birth Jesus. I have been in Mexico for Epiphany and it is truly beautiful celebration. Christmas season continues…

Next Sunday we move quickly ahead and celebrate the Baptism of Jesus. Remember, this is about 30 years after his birth. The Baptism of the Lord Brings our Christmas season to an end, but our celebrating His presence among us never ends.

Again, thank you all for a wonderful Advent and Christmas time, and now it is 2022!
