Upcoming NPH Gala

09-19-2021Weekly ReflectionFr. Michael Straley

I hope you all have your tickets for the Padre Pio luncheon and then the Oktoberfest. It seems we are a party people! I am looking forward to both events.

Another event coming up, Saturday, October 23, is the NPH Gala. As many of you know, I am very involved with the Nuestros Pequenos Hermanos. We are founded by Fr. William Wasson, a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, in the 1950’s. NPH is not an orphanage, but a family, a very large family.

Currently we have over 3,000 students in our nine countries, and over 3,000 more who live with their poor barrio families and receive free education, medical help, and at least one healthy meal per day.

Fr. Wasson believed we could only help the poorer countries south of us by lifting up the poor in those countries, rather than pouring money into their governments. NPH gives our students stability, since they are never “adopted out” to other; we are a family. Education is a major part of our mission as well as teaching responsibility within an environment of unconditional love.

Our Gala will be here at St. Bernard’s and you are invited to attend. Details are in our bulletin or on our website.

Peace to you all,
Fr. Mike
