Generosity, Prayers and Commitment

06-30-2024Weekly ReflectionFr. Fred Adamson

Dear Parishioners,

Monday, July 1st is the 30th anniversary date of the establishment a new parish to serve the growing population in North Scottsdale. It would later be named Saint Bernard of Clairvaux in August of 1994. Since that time, we have grown in numbers of families, buildings on campus, but most importantly our faith. Those early years were important ones that were built on encounters with Christ as the community gathered first at Mountainside Middle School for 8:30 and 10:30am Mass.

We gather today because of the generosity, prayers and commitment of the founding families and hundreds that followed them building a community of faith that today is made up of more than 1,200 families. The blessings are too numerous to count but nonetheless it is important for us to give thanks whether we are a founding member or someone who just started coming to the community.

We will take this year at different times to recognize the 30 year journey and look to the future. Here is the first note from the founding pastor, Fr. John Vogt, from August 28, 1994,

"For the past three Sundays, as we begun to meet each other, I have been inspired by your willingness to begin a number of programs that the Parish will need. There seem to be many of you who have been involved in programs in the Parish you have come from.

Starting on September 11th, we will have two masses at 8:30 and 10:30 A.M. It will give us time to meet each other, have some refreshments and we can also begin some Religious Education programs for the children. We will begin with programs for the children. We will begin with programs for the reception of the Sacraments of Reconciliation and the Eucharist."

- Father John

It is good to remember the roots and foundations and to celebrate and give thanks to God for where He has led us to this day. May this be a time of gratitude and praise for the Saint Bernard of Clairvaux Parish Community.

May you have a blessed and safe 4th of July, giving thanks to God for the freedom we have to practice and live our faith. Let us never take for granted the land of free and the home of the brave. May God Bless America.

Peace and goodness in Him,

Fr. Fred
