Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul

06-29-2025Weekly ReflectionFr. Fred Adamson

Dear Parishioners,

This week, we joyfully celebrate the Solemnity of Saints Peter and Paul. This significant feast inspires great devotion in Rome, particularly at the renowned Basilicas of Saint Peter's and Saint Paul Outside the Walls. Peter, the steadfast rock and leader of our faith, along with Paul, the fearless preacher, both guided countless souls closer to Christ and His Church. We honor these Apostles, who continue to lead and pray for us as we navigate life today. Their example, preaching, and prayers enrich the Church profoundly.

On July 1, 1994, an official decree marked the genesis of our parish. At that time, there was but a piece of land and the name – Saint Bernard of Clairvaux. In a short time, a vibrant community of believers united to worship and glorify God under the patronage of Saint Bernard. Now, thirty-one years later, we gather as a community of faith, strengthened by the commitment, vision, and faith of our founding members. Just as Jesus gathered His apostles and disciples to share the Good News, we, too, are called to invite others into the saving love and grace of God. In this cherished corner of the Valley of the Sun, our Church stands as a beacon of faith, hope, and love. Each day, we have abundant reasons to give thanks.

This Friday, our nation comes together to celebrate Independence Day. It is a day full of picnics, gatherings, fireworks, and parades, yet, most importantly, it is a moment to pause and express gratitude to God for our freedom to practice our faith. The founding fathers envisioned a country without a state religion, ensuring that all individuals could freely express their beliefs without interference. This freedom enables us to share our faith within our churches, synagogues, mosques, and places of worship, engaging with our communities and influencing them through our convictions.

On the Fourth of July, Independence Day, let us be especially thankful for the privilege of being citizens of the United States of America. May we say a heartfelt prayer of thanksgiving and let freedom ring.

Summer peace and blessings,

Fr. Fred
